Who says Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift are on the outs?
Amid speculation that the longtime besties, who have not been seen together publicly in months, are no longer as close as they once were, the Only Murders in the Building star firmly put those rumors to rest.
As Selena told Vanity Fair in a profile published Sept. 9, “She is really like a big sister to me.”
The pair’s last public outing was at the Golden Globe Awards in January, where they set the Internet ablaze as cameras caught them whispering to one another.
Since then, the “Fortnight” singer—who dates Travis Kelce—has been spotted hanging out with other big-name besties including Blake Lively, Brittany Mahomes, Ice Spice and Lana Del Rey while on break from her Eras tour. Meanwhile Gomez, who struck up a romance with music producer Benny Blanco, has kept busy with Only Murders in the Building costar Martin Short and Steve Martin.
Still, the “Single Soon” singer’s remarks are sure to have Swifties and Selenators alike breathing a sigh of relief; after all, the pals have stuck by each other’s side through thick and thin going back as far as 2008, when they hit it off while both dating members of the Jonas Brothers. (Gomez dated Nick Jonas at roughly the same time as Swift was seeing lead singer Joe Jonas, a coincidence Gomez later called “hysterical.”)
And if it wasn’t already clear the pair are in it for the long haul, they’ve always spoken highly of one another. Back in 2014, the “Cruel Summer” singer told E! News their friendship was “the longest one I think either of us had.”
“When your life changes and you become thrust into this really strange whirlwind where what your life is is different from what other people think your life is,” Swift continued. “And your life is commented on and your life is written about and fictionalized and all that. Both of us have kind of stuck it out and hung in there through all the different changes we've gone through.”
Similarly, Gomez sang her bestie’s praises in a birthday tribute on Instagram back in December, calling the 14-time GRAMMY winner a “goddess.”
